People who want to become a Business Intelligence Manager must also update their skills by attending training sessions. In addition, Business Intelligence Managers can set themselves apart from other candidates by seeking certification and additional training.

Certification programs specifically help individuals create a background that help define and distinguish them in a professional manner. Candidates will train for a certification exam during the program. A total of three exams are required by certain programs. The first two exams that need to be passed are focused on a Core Exam and the Data Warehousing Exam.

Candidates will need to choose a specialty for their third exam, the available options are:

  • Leadership and Management

  • Business Analytics

  • Data Analysis and Design

  • Data Integration


A candidate can only take the third specialty exam once they have completed and passed the first two examinations. Candidates can choose to become certified in all four specializations. A candidate who scores a 50 or higher on all three tests is considered at a Practitioner level. Someone in the Mastery level scored at least 70% or higher on all the exams they took.
